WATER RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED IN PUBLIC HOUSING

June 10, 2003 – Because of "excessive consumption" and the "high cost" of water in public housing communities, the Housing Authority is advising residents to follow certain conservation regulations.
It's now prohibited for residents to use hoses to wash vehicles, animals, plants and lawns; and to allow guests or friends to wash clothes or fill containers with water in their housing units.
A notice from Ray Fonseca, VIHA executive director, spelling out the restrictions also noted that housing residents agree under the terms of their leases "to consume water in reasonable quantities and to promptly report any leaks or defects in the plumbing, fixtures, appliances, water heating systems or other facilities."
Fonseca asked that residents place maintenance work orders by calling 715-7358 or 715-7353 on St. Thomas or 778-4086 on St. Croix, or by contacting their housing manager. Failure to comply with the restrictions could "subject resident and household to termination of lease," the notice said.
