FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR IONE KITNURSE

Aug. 11, 2003 — Funeral services were held Friday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on St. Thomas for Ione Rebecca Kitnurse, a former social worker for the Human Services Department.
At the time of her death, on July 28 at the age of 37, Kitnurse was working at the Sea View Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
Kitnurse began her social work career in 1990 and once served as Human Services district manager and director of intake and emergency services. Her extensive community involvement included service with the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, the V.I. Child Abuse Task Force and the Sexual Offenders Commission and as a volunteer counselor with the Police Department's Boot Camp program. She also was a co-founder of the Umoja Environmental Rangers.
At her funeral, Father Hugh Chapman called Kitnurse a person who always had time to help a person in need.
The cause of her death was listed as cirrhosis of the liver.
Burial was in Western Cemetery following the service.
Kitnurse is survived by her mother, Viola Grant; and five sisters and 10 brothers.
