August 18, 2003 – Monday, August 18, marks the beginning of a two-week summer membership drive whereby the territory's loyal public radio listeners can pledge their financial support and become official members of the Virgin Islands' own WVGN.
WVGN, the non-commercial V.I. affiliate station for National Public Radio, began broadcasting in the region a year ago without governmental support and is now looking to expand its local audience as well as to broaden its local support.
The station broadcasts a host of award-winning, internationally-syndicated news and talk radio shows such as World Radio Network, Morning Edition and Fresh Air. Also, WVGN prides itself on being responsive to its audience and, according to a release, added to its programming schedule the popular Prairie Home Companion as well as the Click and Clack Car Talk Show in response to a listener survey
WVGN 107.3 FM reaches more than 120,00 people throughout the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, according to the station's website, where appreciative listeners can log on and show their support by making a donation.
