SCHOOL OPENS AS ROAD IN FRONT OF IT CLOSES

Aug. 25, 2003 – Monday was the first day of school for high school students.
On Monday the Public Works Department announced that road paving has begun in Hospital Ground from the intersection of Dronningens Gade and Kongens Tvaer Gade by the Domino gas station along the road past Charlotte Amalie High School.
The school day runs from approximately 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
A Public Works release issued on Monday said the road paving will be taking place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to continue until Sept. 3.
Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood said that "motorists are requested to use alternate routes to enable the department to expedite the completion of this project." The release did not identify any alternate routes for dropping off and picking up students at CAHS, or how school bus service might be rerouted.
Callwood noted that completion of the paving project "will offer the motorists an improved road surface."
