PLANS IN WORKS FOR TAXIS TO UTILIZE BUS STOPS

Aug. 26, 2003 – The Police Department is working with the Public Works and Licensing and Consumer Affairs Departments to provide St. Croix taxi drivers access to Vitran bus stops for picking up and dropping off passengers.
"This effort is to afford taxis access to an area for passengers to safely embark and disembark," as well as to reduce road hazards and to avoid the impeding of the flow of traffic on public routes, a release distributed by the Police Department on Tuesday stated.
A meeting for representatives of the islands' taxi associations is to be held sometime in early September, the release stated. Taxi officials are asked to telephone Sgt. Charles Orange, Police traffic commander, at 778-2211, ext. 4555, by Aug. 30 for more information.
