Nov. 27, 2003 Gov. Charles Turnbull will be the main event at a St. John Community Foundation-sponsored town meeting at 6:30 p.m., Dec. 17, at the Westin Resort and Villas ballroom.
Carole DeSenne, the foundation's director, said that during the gubernatorial debate before the 2002 election, all the candidates were asked: If they were elected, would they return for a town meeting?
"When the governor won, we sent him a tape recording" of his affirmative response, DeSenne said.
She said it took a while to get the event organized. The foundation plans to conduct a total of four town meetings.
Residents have until Dec. 12 to send the foundation questions they'd like the governor to answer. The foundation's board will pick the questions based on how many times they are asked. The questions must pertain to issues the governor is capable of addressing.
Questioners should include their names, addresses and telephone numbers with the queries.
DeSenne said one of those who submitted a given question will be chosen by the board to pose the question to the governor.
Following the selected questions, attendees will have a 30-minute "open mike" period to ask their questions.
Questions can be sent by facsimile to 693-9410, emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to the St. John Community Foundation, Box 1020, St. John, USVI 00831.
For more information, residents can phone DeSenne at 693-9410.
