UPPER CONTANT TO BE WITHOUT WATER FRIDAY

Nov. 26, 2003 – If you live in Upper Contant, it would be a good idea not to leave the washing up of Thursday's Thanksgiving dinner dishes, pots and pans for next morning. That section of St. Thomas will be without potable water service most of the day Friday while Contant Knolls residents are connected to a new distribution line.
According to a Water and Power Authority release, crews will be working from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday connecting the line to a 6-inch water main lateral in order to provide service to the Contant Knolls housing community.
Water service will be interrupted to Contant Knolls, the roundabout behind Viking Corp., areas behind the Health Department's Maternal-Child Health offices, the Towers Condominiums, and the rest of Upper Contant, the release stated.
The $745,000 project is being funded 63 percent by federal Community Development Block Grant money and 37 percent by WAPA. Plans call for the line extension to be completed in January, thus enabling the utility "to supply potable water to businesses and residents along the Contant Knolls route," the release said.
