ALBC ANNOUNCES TRASH REMOVAL ASSISTANCE

Dec. 22, 2003 – The Anti-Litter and Beautification Commission will be assisting the elderly and disabled citizens of St. Thomas with the removal of bulk garbage items and white goods throughout the holiday season. Assisted collection will take place from Monday, Dec. 22, to Tuesday, Jan. 9.
The commission is enlisting the services of removal contractors, according to an ALBC release, who will be picking up a variety of unwanted items, such as: stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, mattresses, box springs, dressers, beds, tables and chairs.
In conjunction with Gov. Charles W. Turnbull's Beautification Task Force, the commission will be placing additional trash bins island wide to handle the excess refuse.
The removal service will be provided free of charge to those residents unable to deal with the removal themselves. However, in the commission's Edwin Davis, chairman of the ALBC, urged able-bodied residents to take the time to clear unwanted debris themselves, making sure to place items in the designated receptacle bins.
Those needing assistance, as well as those wishing to know the locations of the new bins, may contact the ALBC office at 777-3073.
