Dec. 27, 2003 – The V.I. Medical Society honored Dr. Cora L.E. Christian for her outstanding service to the V.I. community at an awards banquet Dec. 13 at Gertrude's Restaurant.
Dr. Christian, a native Virgin Islander, is a board-certified medical doctor, businesswoman and leader in family practice in the Virgin Islands, the U.S. mainland and in the wider Caribbean. She has lived her life helping Virgin Islanders pursue excellence, said a release.
She has served her community for over 27 years. In 1977, she was appointed assistant commissioner of Health for the Virgin Islands. Her leadership abilities in the V.I. Health Department spanned three administrations. She was the founder and the first Executive Director of the Virgin Islands Medical Institute (VIMI). VIMI is a peer-review medical organization that focuses on quality care and improvement in the Virgin Islands. She has held the Medical Director's position at Hess Oil Virgin Islands Corp. since 1991.
The proceeds from the 2003 dinner go to scholarships for V.I. medical students.
