FESTIVAL WELCOMES NEW YEAR J'OUVERT-STYLE

Jan. 1, 2004 – Crucian Christmas Festival celebrants kept on truckin' and, of course, jumpin' up on New Year's Day morning as four bands played favorite tunes.
Although the schedule called for things to get going at 5 a.m., stepping off from Hannah's Rest Corner, it was closer to 8 a.m. when the crowds and bands got moving. But a late start was no excuse for an early end, and the traditional festivities went on until nearly noon.
Phranchize Band, Extausion Band, XPress Band and Stroka Band kept the rhythms hot atop their trucks as the morning of "Glitz, Glamour, Music and More" warmed up.
Then, for some, it was back home to take in the afternoon's football tournaments on television before heading to Bradyville, the Festival Village, for food, drink and fellowship.
For the evening, the festival offers two options:
– The sounds of St. Thomas's Imagination Brass from 8 to 11 p.m. in the village, with Image Band picking up after that and going until 2 a.m.
– The annual Crucian Festival Calypso Finals competition, from 8 p.m. until, at Paul E. Joseph Stadium.
