Jan. 8, 2004 – Because of a technical problem, some government employees who receive their pay via direct deposit to their bank accounts on St. Thomas and St. John were not able to access the earnings for this pay period on Thursday, the regular government pay day, Finance Commissioner Bernice Turnbull announced in the afternoon.
But all payments should be posted as of Friday, she said in a Government House release.
The problem lay with the host bank for the territory's Payroll Direct Deposit program, according to Turnbull.
The commissioner said she had been told by the host bank that employees with Banco Popular accounts should be able to access their money at automated teller machines and debit machines by late Thursday afternoon. "All other bank account deposits will be posted Friday," she said.
Turnbull also said that she plans to implement "additional procedures to ensure that such a delay does not occur in the future."
