UVI NAMES RICHARDS HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

Jan. 13, 2004 – Valena Veda Richards has been named director of human resources for the University of the Virgin Islands.
Richards will have responsibility for overseeing policy management, training and development, employee-labor relations, benefits and compensation administration, recruitment and employment. She will report to Vincent Samuel, UVI vice president for administration and finance.
At UVI from 1991 through 1998 Richards was a human resources specialist and supervisor. She returns to the university after serving as executive assistant to the commissioner of Human Services for personnel and labor relations and as regional human resources administrator with Colombian Emeralds International.
She holds a bachelor of arts in communications from William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J.
