I have read your article about the territory leading the nation in losing and failing to use school funds, and I'm appalled! The conditions at the public schools are unbelievable. I recently pulled my daughter out of Central High School because of its horrible condition.
Teachers who don't want to teach, bathrooms that are disgusting, uncontrolled violence, racism, no air conditioners except for office workers. The students, of which many are underprivileged, are required to buy things that in other school districts are given to the students. It is obvious to me that the V.I. school system needs more than its share of funds, and we don't even spend what we are given.
Someone should be held accountable for their actions, or inactions as it may be. We need leaders in our school systems, not just people there to collect a check. Shouldn't we be spending this money on such things as metal detectors, increased security, air conditioners, improved restroom facilities, better teachers, qualified substitute teachers when teachers are not available … The list could go on and on.
I would think that the person responsible for this would now be seeking new employment. Someone needs to be held accountable! Don't let the future of the Virgin Islands go down the drain because of mismanagement of funds. I would think it would be very easy to spend money here and even ask for more for the betterment of our children.
