MAHO BAY CAMPS ANNOUNCES CLASS SCHEDULE

Maho Bay Camp Class Schedule
Adult Workshops Program
Class schedules change by season, so call 776-6226 ext. 248 or email rac@maho.org.
The Adult Workshops Program consists of classes in three different rooms: 1) a clay studio of about 900 square feet with 12 potter’s wheels and three kilns including a low-energy kiln that is fueled by waste pallet wood; 2) a glass studio with glass crushers, annealing ovens, and a new HUB Consolidated 175-lb. crucible for melting used beer and soda bottles; and 3) the gallery/craft center.
Lessons
Glass paperweights. Introductory lesson (30 minutes) and make a glass paperweight to take home.
(Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday afternoons, $60)
Adult throwing on the Potter’s Wheel. Learn "throwing. A brief overview on how to prepare the clay, center, throw a cylinder, trim, and glaze. A great souvenir. (Tuesday morning, $40)
Adult Watercolor class w/Gail Van de Bogurt. Paint lovely St. John landscapes with guidance from watercolorist and teacher, Gail Van de Bogurt. All materials provided. (Friday mornings, $45)
Adult Wind Chime class, Have fun creating your own musical wind chime. (Tuesday afternoon, $30)
Ceramic Tile Mosaics with Liberty Bryer. Starts with examples of tile mosaics and reviewing the appropriate tools, materials, and techniques required for large-scale installations. Participants can add to an ongoing installation here at campground as well as designing and making a mosaic tile to take home. (Wednesday morning, $40)
Clay Whistles. Learn the secrets of making simple whistles and ocarinas. Use creativity to shape clay whistles into various animals and objects Great class for kids and families. (Tuesday afternoon, $30)
Glass Mosaics w/ Lisa Crumrine 1pm-4pm: Make a small mosaic tile while learning the basics of making ornamental, as well as functional works of art, by hand cutting and arranging tiny pieces of cut glass. (Thursday mornings, $60)
Kids & Family Potter’s Wheel. Get messy in the mud. Learn about "throwing" on a potter’s wheel. A brief overview on how to prepare the clay, center and throw a basic cylinder. Instructor will help trim, glaze, and fire your pieces. Finished pieces may need to be shipped because of time restraints.
(Various mornings, $30 per person).
Open Clay Studio for those who have experience with clay, no instruction given, Cost includes 10lbs clay. (Various days, $30 for one session)
Paint Your Own Pottery. On one of our handmade terra cotta sea critters, we will help you paint your own personal glaze designs using a traditional Italian glazing technique called Majolica. (Various days, 1 hour for $25)
Papermaking. Learn how to form beautiful hand-made paper from recycled, shredded office paper. (Tuesday mornings, $15)
Private Potter's Wheel Class. Intensive wheel throwing private class. Learn the basic wheel throwing techniques of centering and raising a cylinder, variations on the cylinder form, and trimming the foot. Glazing demonstrated on bisqueware. Great opportunity for intermediate potters to work with more advanced forms.
(Wednesday afternoons, $100 per person)
Silk-Painting. Learn to use gutta resist and silk-paint in the serti style. Make a pillow-cover, frameable piece or scarf. Drawing skills are not necessary, anyone can produce a beautiful, individual piece for the first time! All materials supplied. (Monday. & Wednesday afternoons, $45)
Glass blowing classes: Mon. Tue. & Wed. 1:30pm-3:30pm. ($60)
Children’s Arts and Craft Program
Children’s Nature walk w/Jared Hill. (Friday morning, free) meet at registration center.
Stamp your own Sun Catcher. This class is for those from first grade through high school who want to make their own Maho souvenir. (Thursday afternoon, $15 per sun catcher)
Papermaking. Learn how to form beautiful handmade paper from recycled, shredded office paper. 5 years and older (Tuesday morning, $15)
Clay Pinch Pots & Coil Pots. Have fun making and hand building Clay Pinch pots & Coil pots. 6 years and older (Monday morning, $30/ person)
Watercolor class with Noah. Have fun while experimenting with paints, watercolor and paper. Learn what paint does when applied on paper in different ways. Ages 4 & older. (Thursday afternoon, $20)
Children’s Craft. Make a pirate treasure map of your holiday on St. John, using sail cloth from the West Indian sloop, "Pepper", with local St. John artist Mandy Thody. Ages 4 and older. (Tuesday afternoon, $15)
