Feb. 2, 2004 – The Health Department now is issuing food handler cards at the Morris de Castro Clinic in Cruz Bay, instead of at the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center.
However, people needing cards may get their laboratory work, including a stool sample analysis, done at the Myrah Keating Smith center.
Erica McDonald, Myrah Keating Smith administrator, said persons needing lab work for the cards may utilize any laboratory. The health center has the only laboratory on St. John, but residents also may use private or public facilities on St. Thomas. She said the lab tests cost $31.
McDonald said she does not know how much the Health Department charges for the food handler cards, which are required of anyone working in food services. Efforts to find out the cost from the Health Department were unsuccessful.
