SEWAGE FLOWS FROM MANHOLE IN SUNNY ISLE

Feb. 2, 2004 – The Planning and Natural Resources Department's Environmental Protection Division was "investigating reports of sewage overflow behind the Sunny Isle Medical Center" on Monday, according to a release.
"The sewage is emanating from a manhole in the street behind the medical center and continues to flow in the gutter along the western perimeter of the complex," the public advisory issued by Hollis Griffin, Environmental Protection Division director, stated.
The release advised the public, particularly persons with "compromised immune systems," to avoid areas of sewage runoff "such as guts, puddles, drainage and basins" in the vicinity of the medical center "and Queen Mary Highway in front of the Sunny Isle Shopping Center."
Those seeking further information were directed to call the division office at 773-1082.
