May 11, 2004 – The annual convention of the U.S.Virgin Islands-Parent Teacher Student Association is Saturday, May 29, at the St. Croix Education Complex from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dr. Noreen Michael, Department of Education commissioner, said in a recent announcement, "The collaborative venture between the department and the USVI-PTSA further augments the department's commitment and efforts to encourage and promote parental involvement. This is an ideal opportunity for education personnel to network with parents, other educators and PTA members."
The conference, entitled "Enhancing the Parent in PTA," will feature guest speaker Linda Hodge, National Parent Teacher Association president. She will also conduct the workshop on Parent Involvement in Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
The convention is open to the public. Margarita Benjamin, USVI-PTSA president said. "In fact, I strongly encourage all residents to take advantage of this rare opportunity to come out and hear what we have to say about how PTAs and PTSAs can help our schools and community."
The $35 registration fee includes lunch and entrance to workshops. NPTA members in good standing will receive a reduced registration rate of $25.
