July 27, 2004 – In what may be a first for the territory, Delegate Donna M. Christensen will address the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday evening in Boston.
Christensen, a member of the V.I. delegation and a Kerry-Edwards campaign whip, will speak as a representative of the insular territories and as a national public health advocate.
She is scheduled to give a three-minute speech on the convention floor at some point between 4 and 7 p.m. Her remarks will reflect the convention theme for the evening, a "Stronger, More Secure America."
"It is a great honor for me as a Virgin Islander, a Caribbean person and a representative of the offshore territories to be given a chance to express some of the issues that are specific to us," Christensen said in a release. "It is a clear indication that the Kerry-Edwards campaign is about inclusion and embracing the entire American family."
Christensen also is to take the stage at the convention on Thursday evening with her colleagues in the House Democratic Women's Caucus. The appearance is to include a video presentation of the women in action as members of Congress.
