Youth Symposium to Focus on Business Ownership

Aug. 2, 2004 – Senate President David Jones will host a symposium Aug. 14 on St. Croix for young people interested in acquiring or forming their own businesses.
The program will take place at the Education Complex and will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a release from the Legislature.
The goals of the symposium, for youths age 10 and up, include "raising the awareness of young people towards business ownership and creating wealth, establishing after-school programs, exploring business financing mechanisms and focusing on the realities of youth starting their own business," the release stated.
According to Jones, "Entrepreneurship drives local economic activity and often the global economy itself." The symposium, he said, "has the potential to demonstrate to our youth that developing small, medium and micro enterprises can lead them to financial independence and wealth."
More information about the symposium may be obtained by calling Jones's office at 712-2258.
