Weather System Likely Means Rain for St. Croix

Aug. 9, 2004 – Tropical Depression 3, which formed late Monday afternoon just west of the Windward Islands, should bring some rain to St. Croix on Monday night and Tuesday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Hector Rivera.
"It's not big weather for here," he said from San Juan.
The weather system's track takes it well south of the Virgin Islands and poses no threat to the territory.
At 5 p.m., Tropical Depression 3 was centered at 11.8 degrees north latitude and 62 degrees west longitude, or about 30 miles southwest of Grenada. It was moving west at 22 mph with sustained winds at 35 mph.
Rivera said it was expected to reach tropical storm strength Monday night or Tuesday.
He also said that the Atlantic Ocean looks clear all the way from the African coast to the Caribbean chain, which should give residents a few days of good weather once Tropical Depression 3 moves westward.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 2, which threatened the territory last week, regenerated late Monday afternoon into Tropical Storm Bonnie. After passing south of the territory, it disintegrated into a tropical wave. As of Monday afternoon, it appeared headed for the Florida Panhandle off the Gulf of Mexico.
