Aug. 24, 2004 – All you need is a computer, a phone line and just a smidgen of know-how to pay your V.I. Water and Power Authority bills electronically.
"Why stand in line," WAPA spokesman Laurie Christian said.
The address is www.viwapa.vi.
WAPA launched its Web site and online bill paying function on June 1, but is now working hard to get the word out to customers.
Christian said that since the Web site went online June 1, it's logged over 400 transactions.
Customers get a transaction number, which they can print out for their records.
WAPA customers may also request a change of address, look at their payment history or see their daily consumption rate online. This is particularly useful to see if usage has gone up or down.
Christian said that in order for an account to be credited on the day its paid, payment must be made by 4 p.m. This is the same for a payment at the window.
She said that customers who pay on the WAPA Web site don't have to worry about slow mail delivery by the Post Office.
While paying bills online saves customers' time, it also saves WAPA money since they save on labor and paper costs.
Christian said that WAPA has 50,000 electric customers and 10,000 water customers across the territory.
