Reichhold to Unveil 2004-2005 Season at Business After Hours Event Today
The University of the Virgin Islands' Reichhold Center for the Arts will host the St. Thomas/St. John Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2. The Reichhold Center staff will take the opportunity to unveil its 2004-2005 season lineup during the evening. Debate Society to Sponsor Screening of Oliver Stone's 'JFK' on Sept. 3
The Debate Society on UVI's St. Thomas campus will sponsor a screening of the film Oliver Stone's "JFK" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, in Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110). The film and following discussion are the first of an occasional series planned on the St. Thomas campus designed to enliven discussion and debate on global and local issues. Future works to be featured include the film "Fahrenheit 9/11" and books by authors such as Noam Chomsky and Carter G. Woodson. UVI to Observe Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 6
The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 6. UVI classes will resume their normal schedules and University offices will reopen on Tuesday, September 7.
SBDC Offers Insurance Planning Seminar on St. Thomas Sept. 8
A seminar titled "Insurance Planning Basics for Businesses" will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) training facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. Presenters will be Kenrick Augustus, Sr., Ray Barry and Gary Smith. Admission is $20. A $5 discount is available to those who pre-register by Tuesday, Sept. 7. For more information call 776-3206.
UVI Alumni Slide Show Added to Alumni Affairs Web Site
A new slide show featuring a look at several recent UVI alumni functions is now available on the UVI Alumni Affairs Web site. The presentation highlights activities from the fall of 2003 through the alumni reception held on St. Croix in August. The activities are part of an initiative of President LaVerne E. Ragster to reach out to the University's Alumni. The show can be accessed from the Alumni Affairs link on the UVI Home page www.uvi.edu or at this direct link: UVI Alumni slide show.
Latest datline: UVI Now Available on UVI Web Site
The latest issue of dateline:UVI, the University's monthly newsletter, is now available in print and on the UVI Web site. The newsletter covers a special orientation session for male students held recently on the St. Thomas campus and an training session for alumni of UVI and other Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund schools. Queen's Committee Seeks Performers for Miss UVI Competition
The University of the Virgin Islands Queen's Committee is seeking performers for the upcoming Miss UVI competition. Individuals or groups that can perform short skits, dancing, singing, poetry reading, stand-up comedy, stepping and instrumental performances are invited to audition. An open audition will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, in the Dining Pavilion on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Individuals or groups interested in participating may register for the auditions by calling 693-1056 or 693-1553.
UVI Offers Orientation Conferences for Small Business Grant Programs
The University of the Virgin Islands will offer orientation conferences on September 9 and 10 for two federal grant programs designed to assist individuals operating small businesses involved in research and technology related endeavors. UVI faculty members involved in research and technology are also encouraged to attend.
The programs are the Small Business Innovation Research Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer Program. The conference will be held on St. Thomas on Thursday, Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Nisky Center. On St. Croix, the conference will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 10, in Evans Center Room 401 on UVI's St. Croix campus.
Interested individuals must reserve space in one of the sessions no later than Friday, Sept. 3. To reserve a space, call the UVI-SBDC office 340-776-3206 by 4:30 p.m. on September 3. The conferences are being offered jointly by the UVI Research and Technology Park's Small Business Assistance Program and the UVI Small Business Development Center.
