All Motorized Vehicles Must Be Registered, Insured

Sept. 5, 2004 — Mini-motorcycles and mini-scooters must be registered, inspected and insured, Motor Vehicle Bureau's Director Lawrence Olive said in a release.
Mini-motorcycles and mini-scooters are considered to be motor vehicles according to Title 20, V.I. Code, Sections 301 and 331. All motor vehicles, bicycles and trailers being operated on public roads must be registered with the bureau. All motor vehicles must be insured as per Title 20, Chapter 47, V.I. Code, and failure to properly insure and register these vehicles can lead to citations and/or the confiscation of the vehicle.
Olive encourages all citizens to register these types of motor vehicle according to the law and avoid sanction for operating then illegally. He also encourages parents who may have purchased these types of vehicle for their children to comply with the registration procedures and helmet law when these vehicles are used.
Further, parking lots with egress to public roads are considered to be public roads; therefore, these motorcycles and motor scooters cannot be operated in such lots without being registered. The vehicles cannot be operated in any school parking lot at any time, the release said.
