Sept. 17, 2004 The Upward Bound Program at the University of the Virgin Islands is a college preparatory program for students in ninth through 12th grade. The program will hold recruitment drives Sept. 25 on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses to attract new students, according to spokeswoman Nanyamka Farrelly.
Acceptance of the new students into the program is made possible by an increase in funding by the U.S. Department of Education's TRIO Programs. The local program will receive an additional $100,000 each year until 2007 and has already received the first $100,000 installment for the 2004 fiscal year, Farrelly said.
High-school students throughout the territory currently enrolled in the ninth, 10th and 11th grades who are interested in information about the program are invited to attend a session. Parents are required to accompany their children, she said.
