No Suspects Yet in After-Game Shooting Death

Sept. 27, 2004 – The V.I. Police Department, as of Monday afternoon, was still not identifying the man who was apparently shot to death outside the Lionel Roberts Stadium Saturday afternoon after a football game.
One man was taken into custody immediately after the shooting. However, he was not charged in the incident and Sgt. Thomas Hannah, police spokesperson, refused to call him a suspect in the case. Hannah described him only as "a person of interest."
The shooting occurred in broad daylight, but Hannah could not say if there were any witnesses.
Hannah said he had not heard that the scene was one of panic but he said, "When there are gunshots and there is a crowd of people, people start looking for shelter."
Hannah said officers were on the scene within seconds. The victim was found face up on Prindsens Gade, commonly known as Goat Street.
Hannah said more than 10 officers responded after the gunshots were heard, some of the officers were off-duty and had been at the game.
Hannah said at present the incident is still under investigation. He said officers have yet to come up with a suspect or a motive in the shooting.
Anyone who has any information about the shooting is asked to call 774-2211.
This is the 11th homicide in the St. Thomas-St. John District and the 26th in the territory for this year.
