St. Croix May Be Again Cut Off From Viewing Senate

Sept. 24, 2004 – St. Croix viewers may not be able to see this week's Senate meetings on television. According to a press release issued today by the St. Croix office of public affairs, Innovative Cable is repairing lines downed in Tropical Storm Jeanne and "due to technical difficulties" will not broadcast proceedings to St. Croix television viewers. The public is asked to tune into WIUJ 102.9 FM for coverage.
According to the release, Innovative Cable operates the Senate signal, which is cablecast to St. Croix over Innovative Cable Channel 5. "Innovative is presently working to correct the problem and anticipates the speedy resumption of the live signal," the release said.
Problems with the cable signal are not new to St. Croix residents. Earlier this year, Innovative experienced problems with one of its receivers and was unable to broadcast Senate meetings to St. Croix for about four weeks.(See "Senators, Cable Firm at Odds over St. Croix TV Coverage").
The Senate Rules Committee and the Legislature are meeting this week to consider funding bills, nominations, zoning variances and leases. (See "This Week's Legislative Calendar" ).
