Visual Art Exhibit Features Aspect of Womanhood

Jan. 1, 2005 – On Friday, Jan. 7 visual artist, Theresa Trudeau, will open her first solo show on St. Croix – Creations – at Correa Studios, 5 Company Street (above courtyard behind ReMax).
The opening reception for the exhibit is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and the exhibit will run until Jan. 28. Creations will also be open to the public on Art Thursday, Jan. 13 from 5 to 9 p.m.
Creations explores the complexity of the female persona with all pieces focusing on different aspects of womanhood.
According to a press release, her portraits reveal the realistic side of beauty while her smaller pieces explore the fantasies we are sometimes afraid to realize. Some works also expose stereotypes that tend to marginalize what it means to be a woman in society.
Trudeau, born and raised in Philadelphia, received her bachelor of fine arts in painting and photography from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in May 1998. She did a semester of study in Rome in 1996. Recent projects in which she has participated include:
Aug 2004- "Artivism" Group show at Correa Studios, Christiansted.
Fall 2002- Commissioned to do a permanent mural for the St. Croix Archeological Society Museum of St. Croix, Christiansted.
June 1999- Group Photography Exhibit at James Fuentes Gallery, New York City.
1998- Senior Show, Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia.
May 1996- School Exhibition, Temple University, Rome.
