Celebration Honoring Newsman Lee Carle Now a Fundraiser

Jan. 14, 2004 – What had been planned as a celebration honoring the venerable Lee Carle's 50-year Virgin Island broadcast career Sunday, has now turned into a fund-raiser.
Carle's home was buglarized Thursday afternoon while he was broadcasting the evening news on WSTA radio. The thieves took personal items, including a pair of cufflinks from former Gov. Melvin Evans, and virtually all his electronic equipment. They took the electronics he uses to prepare video segments for Channel 8 in his home studio, as well as 100 DVD video archives of interviews throughout the years, and about 100 CD audio music and interviews.
The event is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Victor's New Hideout in Sub Base. Anyone who has known Carle over the years is welcome to come celebrate with him. Though very discouraged at his loss, Carle says he is still anxious to greet old friends.
The event will feature a buffet and cash bar, with a suggested donation of $20 at the door.
