Delegate to Address Friends of V.I. Park Meeting

Jan. 14, 2005 – The annual meeting of the Friends of V.I. National Park is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at T'ree Lizards Restaurant at Cinnamon Bay. V.I. Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen will be the keynote speaker.
In addition, park superintendent Art Frederick will give the State of the Park address, and Friends' president Joe Kessler will present the Friends' annual report.
Two new members will be nominated to the Friends' board of directors: native St. Johnian Earl Thomas and resident Elsa Angel. Both were selected as nominees after serving on the Friends' Advisory Council.
"Earl and Elsa have demonstrated a commitment to the Friends, and a willingness to become more involved with the organization. Both candidates have an excellent understanding of the challenges our community faces, and the special relationship of the Park with St. John residents. Earl and Elsa will bring unique, fresh perspectives, provide new energy, and invaluable input to the Friends' Board, and we warmly welcome and thank them for their continued service." Kessler said.
Each year, the Friends take this opportunity to recognize outstanding volunteers who donated their time to make a difference in the Park. These individuals will receive the "Volunteer of the Year" awards. In addition to acknowledging volunteers, the Friends will also recognize a V.I. National Park staff member who best embodies the partnership between the park and the Friends.
The Friends thank Cinnamon Bay Campground for graciously offering its space at the T'ree Lizards Restaurant. Parking at Cinnamon is limited, so attendees are asked to park at the National Park Service maintenance area by Mongoose Junction and take the shuttle service which will be provided from there. Call 779-4940 for more information and to confirm attendance.
