St. Croix International Regatta, Day Two

Feb. 20, 2005 – Regatta Director Julie San Martin announced preliminary results from the second day of this year's International Regatta of competitive sailing in the Buck Island Channel, sponsored by Innovative Communications Corporation.
CSA RACING: Leading in the CSA Racing group after two days is "Magnificent Seven," St. Thomas, captained by John Foster, who finished last year's regatta in second place;
Tied in 2nd place: "El Shaddai II," St. Croix, Jeff Fangman; and "Mistress Quickley, Tortola, Guy Eldridge.
RACER CRUISER: Puerto Rican Sailors continue to lead the Racer Cruiser Category, with "Lazy Dog" in first place, skippered by Sergio Sagramoso.
2nd place: "Abracadabra", Puerto Rico, Carlos Camacho;
3rd place: "Pipe Dream," Tortola, Peter Haycraft.
CRUISER: Returning to claim his first place from 2004 in the Cruising Category is Skipper Jose Sanchez from Puerto Rico leading so far this year in "Balaju 2;"
2nd place: "Rumor," New Hampshire, USA, Norman Martin;
3rd place: "Hotel California," Delaware, USA, Steve Schmidt.
IC24: Boats in a new category added to the St. Croix regatta this year are led by Chris Currieri of St. Thomas in "Brand-New 2nd Hand";
2nd place: "Stinger," John Holmberg, St. Thomas;
3rd place: "Conch-Querer," Andrew Waters, Tortola.
BEACH CAT: Last year's 2nd place finisher, Anton Guernica's "Lolo Too" from Puerto Rico, leads the beach cats after two days.
2nd place: "Rush," Bruce Merced, St. Thomas;
3rd place: "Caribbean Automart," Tom Ainger, St. Croix.
LARGE MULTIHULL: Last year's winner, Llewellyn Westerman of St. Croix, continues to lead on "Charis II," ahead of Joe San Martin, St. Croix, "Piglet."
34 boats and their crews from St. Croix, St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands Puerto Rico, and the United States were welcomed at Friday night's Cruzan Rum party.
Big boat International Regatta racing continues Monday starting at 10 a.m. All are welcome to view the awards presentation at 3 p.m. Monday at the St. Croix Yacht Club, when the winning skipper will receive his weight in Cruzan Rum.
OPTIMIST RACING: The 2nd annual Optimist Regatta wrapped up with a second day of morning and afternoon races for 24 sailors ages 8 to 15 from St. Thomas, St. Croix, and Puerto Rico. Awards were presented based on these final results:
1st place: David Alfonso, Puerto Rico
2nd place: Jose Nigoglioni, Puerto Rico
3rd place: Jae Tonachel, St. Croix.
