Carnival Update: Rain Don't Stop de Carnival

April 23, 2005 – The Heineken Calypso Review is on, as is Sunday's Steelband Jamboree. After rain brought down the Culture Night festivities on Friday, it was anybody's guess whether the same weather conditions would force the Carnival committee to also cancel what has long been known as "Calypso tent" Saturday night.
But after a review of the conditions as Lionel Roberts Stadium Bobby Thomas, Carnival spokesman, said early Saturday evening the event was definitely on.
"There are still some soggy areas on the field," he said, "but what we were more worried about was more heavy rainfall."
He said, "We called the National Weather Center in San Juan and they said there was a 20 percent chance of rain, but it shouldn't be too heavy."
Thomas said the same conditions were predicted for Sunday and therefore Carnival activities would go on as scheduled for Sunday, too.
The Calypso Review is slated to begin at 8 p.m. Saturday. Sunday's Steelband Jamboree, formerly known as Pan-O-Rama, starts at 5:30 p.m. Both will be held at the Lionel Roberts Stadium.
