July 5, 2005 – The unnamed minor picked up Saturday in connection with a double homicide June 15 has been charged with first-degree murder.
A release from Police Commissioner Elton Lewis said that in a detention hearing Tuesday morning before Judge Leon Kendall in Family Court, the 17-year-old had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted robbery and two counts of first-degree assault.
The youth is being held at the Youth Rehabilitation Center on St. Croix. A Justice Department source said there is no bail where juveniles are concerned. They are either released to their parents or sent to YRC, where they are held until the initial hearing.
The release gave no information about when the initial hearing is expected to take place. Sgt. Thomas Hannah, public information officer for the Police Department, could not be reached for further information.
The arraignment for Jamal Hart, 20, who has also been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Tristan A. Charlier, 24, and 25-year-old Leon H. Roberts,
is set for July 14, the release said. He is the brother of the unidentified youth.
Hart is being held in the jail on St. Thomas in lieu of $500,000 bail.
