Summer Session: Last Day to Drop Course Without Permission Is July 8
The final day to drop a Summer Session II course without the permission of the Provost is Friday, July 8, 2005. UVI's Summer Session II classes continue through July 28.
Reichhold Center Hosting Freddie McGregor Autograph Session July 8
Reggae fans will be in for a special treat on Friday when Grammy-nominated singer Freddie McGregor and local artist Pressure will sign autographs and pose for pictures. Big Ship Promotions and UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts are hosting an autograph signing session with McGregor and Pressure from 5-6 p.m. on Friday, July 8, at Modern Music in Nisky Center on St. Thomas. UVI Volleyball/Basketball Sports Camp Set July 11 – August 5 on St. Thomas
A UVI Sports Camp is scheduled for July 11 through August 5 at the Sports and Fitness Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Hosted by UVI coaches Curtis Gilpin, Kirby Callendar and Sean Georges, the camps will focus on the instruction and development of volleyball and basketball skills for boys and girls ages eight through 17. The camp will offer lunch and a snack daily, Monday through Friday. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration and application can be made through the UVI St. Thomas campus Housing Office at 693-1112, Computer Center at 693-1463 or the Sports and Fitness Center at 693-1104. The camp cost is $125 per student.
Free Youth Clinics Offered as Part of UVI Celebrity Golf Classic
The Foundation for UVI has announced that free youth football and golf clinics are planned as part of the UVI Celebrity Golf Classic scheduled on St. Croix from July 14 through 17. The clinics are for youngsters from 9 through 15. They are scheduled at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 15. The football clinic – conducted by NFL players – will take place on the UVI St. Croix campus. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The golf clinic with PGA golfer Tim O'Neal – will take place at the Carambola Golf Club. A news release is available on the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.
Foundation for UVI Celebrity Golf Classic Set July 14-17
The Foundation for the University of the Virgin Islands will host its first Celebrity Golf Classic from July 14 through July 17, 2005, at the Carambola Golf and Beach Resort on St. Croix. Celebrities from the National Football League, the National Basketball Association and the entertainment industry are expected to participate in this star-studded event in support of the Foundation's endowment. St. Thomas Class of 2005 Yearbooks Available at Bookstore
Yearbooks for the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus class of 2005 are now available at the UVI Bookstore. The full-color yearbook costs $40. Individuals who reserved copies in advance should call Class President Anne Auguste at 643-2175 or Yearbook Chairman Marcus Browne at 643-7637 to arrange for pickup. Yearbooks may also be purchased from Auguste and Browne. Individuals who paid deposits on the 2004 yearbook are asked to call the Student Activities Office at 639-1111 to arrange for their refunds.
UVI Library Honored for Work on Digital Library of the Caribbean
The University of the Virgin Islands Library has received an award from the Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries (ACURIL) for its initiative in the creation of the Digital Library of the Caribbean. The award — the Albertina Pérez de Rosa Information Units Alliances and Collaborative Projects in the Caribbean Award — was shared with the libraries at Florida International University and the University of Florida. Presented during the 35th ACURIL conference held June 10 in Martinique, the award recognizes and honors excellence in collaborative efforts and the implementation of successful projects for the benefit of clientele in the Caribbean.
