Barshinger To Host Cruise Industry Forum

Aug. 16, 2005 – A forum geared to bringing all interested parties together to discuss ways to bring about the return of cruise ships to St. Croix is set for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24. Senator-at-Large Craig Barshinger has invited all concerned about the tourism industry on St. Croix to participate in the forum – One Daily Daylight Cruise Ship Arrival on St. Croix-The St. Croix Wow! Experience.
According to a press release from his office, the forum is at St. Gerard's Hall, Frederiksted.
"The people of St. Croix are eager, ready and willing to become a Heritage Tourism destination," Barshinger said. "The cruise ships are also eager to find new and exciting tourist destinations, and St. Croix is one of them."
Each stakeholder who desires to speak, will be allotted time to share suggestions, recommendations and what the individual or his company/agency will do to assist in the return of cruise lines to St. Croix. Attendees will discuss various issues, including:
– What cruise lines want in St. Croix;
– How to get a micro-credit loan;
– How to prepare a business plan;
– What new service business are needed;
– How various government agencies can work together to bring the cruise ships and keep them coming.
Entrepreneurs will also be given the opportunity to tell what sales/services they seek to offer cruise passengers and will be able to network with others in the community.
Barshinger said, "Each stakeholder is a vital piece of the puzzle, and by coming together in this forum we can all work together for return of the cruise lines to St. Croix. I am confident that this goal will be realized once we all work together."
