Aug. 21, 2005 – Sales and Service Associate Yolanda Rivera from the Wilbur R. Armstrong Post Office in Christiansted has been selected Retail Ambassador for the Caribbean District of the U.S. Postal Service.
This announcement corresponds to the third phase of the USPS Ambassador program, which selects talented postal employees across the nation to promote products and services in the news media. The first phase of this campaign produced letter carrier ambassadors to play themselves in print, radio and television advertising. In the second phase, management employees were selected Customer Service Ambassadors.
Rivera, who auditioned with eight other district participants, will travel to Dallas, Texas in late August to undergo media training and product knowledge courses that will assist her in spreading the word about the services and products the Post Office offers.
Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Rivera came to St, Croix at the age of five and grew up to be a member of the Cruzan community. She has married and raised two daughters. She devotes her free time to the Cruzan Dance Summer Camp and belongs to the Promotional Team of the Speak the Word Ministry.
In her position, Rivera considers "dealing with the customers" the most interesting part of her job. "I've been proud of the Postal Service since my youth, and my dream was always to be part of it. I love customer service and anything I can do to make a difference."
According to a press release from the Post Office, she has a passion for travel, meeting new people and serving her customers.
