UVI CELL Offers Writing Courses

Aug 29, 2005 – Whether it is preparing letters, reports or a research paper, effective writing is critical. Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning Center at the University of the Virgin Islands is offering two evening courses to help anyone who wants to write more effectively.Both courses are taught by Don Buchanan, managing editor of St. Croix Source.
The first course is the Essentials of Business Writing. It runs Sept. 7 through Sept. 21 every Monday and Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. Students learn how to craft clear, simple sentences that get their point across and how to use transitions and phrases that flow smoothly. Basic grammar and the proper formatting of memos, letters and other business correspondence is reviewed.
Sharpening Your Writing Edge begins Sept. 26 and runs through Oct. 10, also Monday and Wednesdays 6 to 8 p.m. Students learn how to spot slippery misspellings and common errors in grammar. They will also be given tips the pros use to speed through writing assignments. Students will also learn the right format for a variety of situations and how to make the most of word processor's features.
