First Homicide of 2006 is on St. Thomas

Jan. 20, 2006 – St. Thomas recorded the territory's first killing of 2006 late Thursday night when an unidentified man was fatally wounded in a hotel room at the Carib Beach Hotel.
Police received a call about the incident at 11 p.m.
While V.I. Police Department officials have not released any information on the homicide, sources say the victim was in his room with a female companion when he was attacked by an unknown suspect who came in through an unlocked door. The victim, who is believed to be a cruise ship employee who had arrived by plane to meet his companion, was fatally shot.
The woman was not injured.
Further unofficial reports indicate that two suspects believed to be minors were taken into custody shortly after the shooting. However, it has not been confirmed that they were involved in the incident.
A police source said while robbery could be a motive, it was not necessarily consistent with the actions of the suspects.
