Jones and Bass Compete in Historic Canadian Meet

Feb. 8, 2006 – The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation announced today that its two top female sprinters competed in the Knights of Columbus Saskatchewan Indoor Games 2006, a meet that is in its 41st year. One of North America's oldest, this invitational track and field meet features school relays, open events and international invitational events with world-class athletes, according to a press release from the VITFF.
Laverne Jones has qualified for the World Indoor Championships to be held in Moscow in March. She took a close second place in the Brainsport Invitational 60 meters with a time of 7.39 sec. behind Wylesheia Myricks of the United States with a time of 7.30 sec. Valma Bass, in the process of qualifying for the WI Champs, was sixth in 7.55 sec. Bass took third in the Star Phoenix Invitational 55 meters with a time of 6.44 sec. Jones also took second in the CTV 200 meters Invitational in 24.16 sec. behind May Danners of the United States, who came in at 24.09 sec. Bass finished sixth in the race in 25.17 sec.
