CFVI Invites Applications for Summer Scholarships

Feb. 15, 2006 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands invites public and private school students in the 10th and 11th grades to apply for the fourth annual ISS 2006 Summer Enrichment Program Scholarship. The ISS Fund at CFVI awards scholarships to students seeking to attend academically rigorous summer enrichment programs at stateside institutions of higher learning. Last year four scholarships were awarded to students:
· LaToya Donastorg attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine.
· Maxine Emerich participated in the Congressional Student Leadership Conference and the GirlsLead conference.
· Nicole T. Francis attended the Columbia University Summer High School Program.
· Jenelle Penha attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine.
· Mia Denee Todman participated in the Global Young Leaders Conference.
Applications are due at CFVI no later than April 10, 2006, but applicants are encouraged to submit their materials As soon as possible. Applications will be considered as they are received. Awards will be announced no later than May 2, 2007.

To qualify for an ISS Summer Enrichment Program Scholarship, a student must:
• Be a 10th or 11th grader in a public or private high school in the U.S.V.I.
• Be accepted in/or have applied to a summer enrichment program.
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 85.
• Demonstrate financial need.
Priority is given to applicants who demonstrate extraordinary academic, as well as community service oriented accomplishments. Quality of the enrichment program will also be an important consideration. The foundation wants to emphasize that these summer scholarships are available for a wide range of enrichment programs, including but not limited to music, the arts, entrepreneurship and community leadership.
