Kirwan Elementary Holds Renaming Ceremony

Feb. 17, 2006 – The Michael J. Kirwan Elementary School will be renamed and unveiled as the Gladys A. Abraham Elementary School at a ceremony on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m., in the school cafeteria, according to a press release from Kirwan Elementary.
Principal Whitman Browne said, "Ms. Gladys A. Abraham served with distinction as the first principal of this school. The renaming of the school in her honor is fitting as it reunites the individual with the very institution where she nurtured ideals that served as the foundation for the school's long history of academic success. Ms. Abraham stressed the principles of hard work and discipline as the basis for achievement to her teachers, staff and scores of students. Those ideals have been passed on to the present. Today they have become constants and are reflected in our overall mission and objectives.
"We celebrate Ms. Gladys A. Abraham here at Kirwan Elementary and hope that the entire community will join our celebration and renaming of the school."
Those interested in making presentations to Gladys Abraham at the ceremony or participating as a patron through an advertisement for the commemorative booklet are asked to contact Pauline Lynch-Benitez or Neomie Toussaint-Williams at 774-3382. The deadline to submit entries is Friday, Feb. 24.
