UVI Announces Afternoon on the Green Winners

March 24, 2006 – The University of the Virgin Islands announced the winners of the 17th annual Afternoon on the Green, and this year Stephanie Anderson topped the list with wins in three categories, including the first place win in Native Drinks for "Stephie's Secret Tasty Ice Tea."
In the Main Dishes/Meats/Poultry category, Anson Larcheveaux, whose "Anson's Chicken & Rice" won the first prize for the past two years, slipped to second place this year. Instead Gloria Carmona's "Bordeaux BBQ Chicken" took first prize in that category.
However, Larcheveaux and Selwyn Gumbs took first place in the Vegetables/Casseroles category for "Lash & Boom's Jack Daniel Tofu."
First time contributor Tinekqua Christian won second prize in the Native Drinks category for her frozen fruit drink "T&T Delight."
Kevin Lettsome, also a first time contributor, won third prize in the Soups category for his Bull Foot Soup.
Lorraine Francis claimed first prize for the second consecutive year with her potato salad in the Side Dishes category.
Other repeat winners included Lesmore Howard for his kallaloo, Doreen J. Lewis for her shrimp and okra, and Demalia K. Jackson for her zucchini bread.
Patrons who purchased $10 or more of tickets were able to judge the food. Judging was based on originality, taste and creativity. The complete list of winners includes:

3rd Prize – James Fredericks, Pineapple Ginger

2nd Prize – Erica Donovan, Red Peas Soup
3rd Prize – Kevin Lettsome, Bull Foot Soup

1st Prize – Lorraine Francis, Potato Salad
2nd Prize – Lillian's Caribbean Grill, Doucana
3rd Prize – Ellen Murraine, Spinach Rice
