Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival Celebrated

April 7, 2006 – The Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds will celebrate the fifth edition of the Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival from April 22 to May 22. The purpose of the festival is to increase public awareness of the region's high endemism and rich bird life.
In St. Thomas there will be a two-week activity for school children and adults to compete for premiums in bird identification called "Birdwatching the Best Birds". Registration and information about this and other events will be available at the Pro-Enviro Fair on Friday, April 21 or at the "Birding for Beginners" event on Saturday April 22. Planned activities on St. Thomas include the following:
The 2nd Annual Pro-Enviro Fair at the University Sports and Fitness Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on April 21. Register for "Birdwatching the Best Birds." There will be a free movie, "Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill," at 7 p.m., in the center, room 222.
"Birding for Beginners" and registration for "Birdwatching the Best Birds" will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., April 22, at the UVI Marine Science Center. There will be a free movie, "March of the Penguins," at 7 p.m., in the UVI Chase auditorium.
Submission of checklists and award of premiums (posters, stickers, and "Bird Buddy" wristbands) for "Birdwatching the Best Birds" is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., on May 6, at the University of the Virgin Islands. The location will be announced at a later date.
