Political Leadership Forum for Women Held

April 21, 2006 – The United States Virgin Islands Commission on the Status of Women, The Women of Color Living in the Virgin Islands Path to Health Justice and Generation Now have joined to present a forum on women's leadership entitled "Claiming Political Power: Moving More Women into Public Office." The community is invited to attend and participate.
The forum will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, April 22, at Gertrude's Restaurant. Registration is $30. Breakfast and lunch are included in the fee. Early registration is recommended.
"Women's voices matter when it comes to the economic and political processes that shape all of our lives. But women are not being heard in political and economic arenas where they should be making a difference. Virgin Islands women voters outnumber men, but today we have only one female senator. Women must learn political maturity and how to participate in politics of performance and not patronage," said Sonia Boyce, commissioner chair.
Prominent elected and appointed leaders and grassroots political strategists will provide insight and expert information to the audience.
