May 2, 2006 — A Celebration of Life for Michael F. Cabacungan will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Iggies at Bolongo Bay, St. Thomas. In accord with his wishes, friends and well wishers are invited to gather at sunset to remember and celebrate the good times. A similar celebration will take place the same day for friends and family in New York.
Born and raised in New York, he began his hairstyling career there; in 1985 he moved to St. Thomas where he was co-owner and co-operator of Jan Michael's Hair Studio at Marriott Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort for more than 20 years. He died March 22, at the age of 59, following a valiant battle against cancer.
A past president and long-time member of the Rotary Club, he was also very active in United Way of St. Thomas. He was well known for volunteering with and supporting myriad charitable events and organizations, including Partners for Health, the Humane Society, Catholic Charities, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and many more.
