Parsons Dance Company to Take to the Reichhold Stage

May 4, 2006 — At 8 p.m. May 20, the New York City-based Parsons Dance Company will take center stage at the Reichhold Center for the Arts with an electrifying suite of performances.
Parsons Dance Company is hailed worldwide for its incredible execution, energy and artistic expression. The nine-member group can perform a graceful ballet to the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or break into funky hip hop moves to the music of Earth Wind and Fire.
Parsons dancers will bring to the Reichhold stage some of the more popular performances from its repertory of more than 70 works, including "Kind of Blue," a languid and moving dance performed to the music of Miles Davis. "Kind of Blue" was originally commissioned and presented at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy. The group will also perform "Wolfgang" a graceful ballet performed to the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, featuring dancers in 18th century costumes. "Slow Dance" is a sultry dance, featuring Parsons dancers' signature acrobatic manipulations of bodies from the sky to the floor.
Parsons Dance Company is the namesake of choreographer David Parsons, who has enjoyed an extensive career as a performer, choreographer, teacher and director. From 1978-1987, Parsons was a leading dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company. Parsons achieved global recognition when he choreographed and directed the dance elements for Times Square 2000, the 24-hour performance marathon that celebrated the arrival of the millennium.
Parsons is a recipient of the 2000 Dance Magazine Award, as well as the 2001 American Choreography Award for his work as a co-producer of AEROS, a production featuring the Romanian Gymnastic Federation that was featured on the Bravo Channel.
Prior to the performance, Parsons Dance Company will offer master classes for the general public at 6 p.m.on May 19, at the Reichhold Center For the Arts. The master class will offer instruction in modern dance techniques and movements. To register for the master dance class call the Reichhold Center box office at 693-1559.
