Dear Source:
It is with a renewed sense of pride that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the members of the Ss. Peter and Paul School Moot Court Team. Your victory in the 12th Appellate Moot Court Competition speaks volumes to the talent and skill represented among you. As a 1983 graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul School, it is not unusual for me to drive by the campus on my return trips to the Virgin Islands, and recall with fond memories my 12 years spent at Sts. Peter and Paul.
As a current member of the Clinical and Academic Faculty at the University of Florida, and a practicing family physician, I am very cognizant of the comprehensive scope of skills needed to be competitive and successful beyond secondary education. However, without the bountiful support of teachers, family, friends and Sts. Peter and Paul School alumni, it is certain that even the most successful among us may have fallen short of our articulated dreams.
Your success should propel you (and your fellow students) to continue to believe in the power of hark work and the virtues of dutiful diligence. As there is no "i" in "Team", know that you have honored the legacy of dozens of successful Sts. Peter and Paul Alumni (and the indelible mark in history made by the scores of teachers who molded us, like (my) Ms. Kenny, Ms. Gonzales, Ms. Renner, Sister Irene, Mr. Clark, Mr. Combine, Sister Patricia, Mr. Nadler
and the list goes on) by your actions. Congratulations Attorney James Bernier Jr. for doing what so many of us should continue to do by giving back
and looking back. Thank you Judges Patricia D. Steele, Audrey Thomas-Francis and Daryl Donahue for the difficult job you must have in choosing a victor from among so many wonder and talented young Virgin Islanders.
So students, as you venture beyond the laurels of this success, remember these words of the author Marianne Williamson:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God." Sincerely,
Dr. Kim Marie Barbel Johnson
Jacksonville, Florida
