June 3, 2006 – Charlotte Amalie High School will host four summer sign language workshops on Saturdays, June 24, July 1, July 8, and July15, in the health classroom.
All classes will be held for one hour a week for four weeks. The sessions are playful learning activities that will challenge children and be fun, interesting and within their ability.
There will be sign language workshops for children 7-11years old, from 12:40 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. and for children from 12-17 years old, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Another class will focus on teaching babies and toddlers to communicate before they can talk. This session is designed to help parents, moms-to-be, and grandparents provide preschool children with the language-rich activities they need for starting school. The time of these sessions is: 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
For all day care, preschool professionals, teachers, camp counselors, et al: Research in the Early Childhood field encourages young children to use sign language. The more language or signs that a child can learn in their earliest years, the greater their vocabulary will grow and their intellect will develop later in life. Learn how to incorporate sign language into your curriculum. The time of this session is 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
