June 3, 2006 – Representatives of the Caribbean Regional Association for Integrated Ocean Observing Systems will host a series of workshops on June 12, 14, and 16 to see how island residents relate to the oceans and seas, and what kinds of information help them determine how they conduct those activities.
The goal of these stakeholder workshops is to open a dialogue among organizations and individuals whose interests or ventures will benefit from easy access to ocean related data.
The workshops begin on St. Croix on June 12 at the Florence Williams Library in Christiansted, and continue on St. John, June 14, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church Parish Hall, and on St. Thomas, June 16, at the Department of Parks and Natural Resources conference room on the second floor of the Cyril E. King Airport. All workshops take place from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
The Caribbean Regional Association is being developed through a partnership between the University of the Virgin Islands, the University of Puerto Rico, and stakeholders throughout the region.
CaRa hopes to establish and sustain an integrated ocean and coastal observing system serving the Caribbean.
