Island Stylin' Event Promises More Than Just Fashion Show

June 5, 2006 – The best in St. John fashions will combine with music, dance and an all-around good time June 17 at "Island Stylin' Fashion Blitz and Music Mix 2006" at The Westin St. John's beach café.
Joining the fun will be as many as 30 models of all ages – including two sets of twins – wearing eye-catching fashions from St. John's favorite boutiques such as Big Planet, Bougainvillea, Bamboula, St. John Editions and Wild Thyme.
The event, designed to support The Safety Zone, will feature the music of Steve Simon Jazz Band.
After working on this year's Island Stylin', Kimberly Moore, the show's organizer and member of The Safety Zone board of directors, used her creativity to make this year's annual fund-raiser more than just a fashion show, by adding local entertainers.
Besides the Island Stylin' fashion show, the night will feature a great music mix with Simon's exciting band and Moore turning on the crowd with her famous Tina Turner imitation. Also slated to perform are singers Sammy Joe, St. John School of the Arts student Sage, Dr. Ronald Nimmo; a young, dynamic dancer; a playful routine by St. John youth; and lots more fun.
Proceeds will benefit The Safety Zone, St. John's Domestic Violence and Victims of Crime Agency.
The Safety Zone is dedicated to ending violence. Its mission is to effect change through intervention, information, education, and advocacy for the general public with a focus on domestic violence, abuse and/or neglect of infants, children and adults inside or outside the family unit.
The Safety Zone provides free services to all victims of crime through counseling and support groups for targets and perpetrators; community outreach programs; training for law enforcement and advocates; and shelter and respite at Lucy's Place, St. John's only safe house.
The event is made possible in part by the generosity of The Westin St. John.
Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the event, and will be available at Chelsea Drug Stores on St. John and St. Thomas, Connections in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay, and Moore's Dental Care in The Lumberyard on St. John and the Professional Building on St. Thomas.
