Power Outage Darkens St. Thomas

June 14, 2006 – At 7 a.m. Wednesday most of St. Thomas lost power. According to V.I. Water & Power Authority spokeswoman Cassandra Dunn, unit No. 18 went down, and shifted its load to unit No. 15.
She said that for unknown reasons, unit No. 23 also wouldn't start, and possibly other units failed, switching loads to unit No. 13.
Units 15 and 13 were unable to handle the additional loads, and those units also failed because of the overload.
At 8:15 a.m. Dunn said she expected the power to stay off for at least one and a half to two hours. "They're troubleshooting it now," she said.
By 8:45 a.m. power had been restored to some areas.
